One of the best bands in the world Cold Play was coming to out of all places El Paso. This was big thing. Their first concert was sold out and they added another concert.
I always told Michelle that the only band I would see live is Cold Play and maybe Imagine Dragons. Like a cat Michelle pounced on the tickets. The cost of two decent tickets, middle row was around $237 each person. We paid almost $500.
The anticipation leading up to the concert was of preparedness. It was projected to be 104°F and we couldn't bring an umbrella into the Sun Bowl.
We didn't prepay for parking, so we had to search for parking. We found a nice spot at Pizza Hut for $40. In the past I would never have paid that much for parking, but since we're older we don't care about price its more convivence.
The line to get inside was so long, it stretched over a mile and there was no crowd control, so the line just snaked for yards and yards and mind you it was 104°F. The time was about 5:15pm. As time went on the ambulance started picking up people as people suffered head exhaustion. I was like f-that, so Michelle and I found some shade albeit hot, it was better than suffering in that line. They opened the gate at 6:00pm, but the line wasn't moving, so we continued to wait under shade. Eventually we got in by 6:30pm, but the line to get into the Sun Bowl was at a standstill. They must of figured something out becuase the line started to move.
Once inside it was shoulder to shoulder. The Sun Bowl was built in 1963 ~ 60 years ago. It feels like an old stadium. The bottom level where the concession stands were didn't have much room which lead to the should to shoulder. The stadium can hold 50,000 people and it was sold out, so I assumed 50,000 people were showing up. I was getting very hungry at this moment and wanted to eat. I saw a birria stand and Michelle bought a pretzel and lemonade and we headed to our seats. We were so tired already because of the heat beaming down on us that the food tasted so good.
Cold Play came out at 9:00 pm. They played such hits as Clocks, Viva la Vida, The Scientist, Paradise and Yellow. They started off a little rough, but when they hit their groove, it was electric. It sounded better than studio. One thing that sets them apart is the energy the bring. It was a perfect show. Chris Martin the lead singer knows how to work a crowd, he has such stage presents and appears so comfortable in front of a lot of people.
The total cost of the night was over $500, but it was worth it. I think we ended up spending $685. We bought $130 in merchandise, $40 in parking, $40 in food and the tickets were $475. It is an experience we will never forget.
