July 9 thru July 17
Fort Madison, Iowa
Anticipation was in the air all the way from Fort Madison, Iowa as Malia was pregnant for 40 weeks and ready to give birth.
Malia gave birth to on July 1 to Koavanni Hauck. He was a big baby, his measurements were 8 pounds and 21.25 inches. Michelle flew up a few days before July 1 to be there for the delivery. According to Michelle, Malia's delivery took 19 hours. Koa was stuck in the birth canal for a minute and had some brusing on his shoulder. He had a lot of fluid stuck in his lungs. The staff got the fluid out and took him for some observation. All indications is that Koa did very well.
I flew out to Iowa on July 9. El Paso to Dallas was quick. I love the El Paso airport. There was no line and everything always goes smooth. When I got to Dallas, things seem to go all right but then the weather outside of the airport got bad and flights started getting delayed. The flight to Moline Aiport was delayed for an hour, then two hours, then 2.5 hours. This meant that I would get to the Quad Cities by 2 am. I told Michelle that I was going to be delayed and we tried to figure out if I should book a hotel at the Quad Cities. Michelle said she could be me up at 2 am. The problem is that the drive from Moline to Fort Madison is 2 hours. Which meant we would get to the air bnb by 4:30am. That was rough to say the least, but Michelle pulled through. I was dead tired when I got to the air bnb.
Even though I was dead tired I woke up the next day at 7 am. By 10am I was getting bored so I text Malia if I could see the baby. I drove the 2 miles to their house and saw Koa. What a bundle of joy! He is so cute and handsome. He is such a mellow baby. I was so proud to be a grandpa.
Michelle had a plan to stay a month with Malia them, while I was only going to stay a week. During my time there I had so much enjoyment, even though it was hard work, it didn't feel like it. I felt so great to be a grandfather. I posted a lot on facebook and instagram just to clarify that it wasn't my child, lol and that it was Malia's child.
In summary I really enjoyed Iowa, it is so green. I think that entire midwest area is green and that is why I understand why people call it God's Land.
